EAST MARKET – Via Mecenate 88/A , Milan

More than 300 exhibitors from all over Italy, with the most curious design pieces and trendy outfits, make up the East Market of Via Mecenate – set up within an ex-aeronautics factory – the meeting point between ‘American culture’ and pure Milanese character. It’s mission is to create culture and awareness of recycling between users of every age, vintage lovers and hobbyists always in search of treasures. More than a market, it’s an appointment with street culture. Entrance: 5 euros; free for children under 12.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST – Piazza Stradivari, Cremona

At an hour and a half from Milan by car, in Cremona – known as the “city of music” for the many violin makers that populate it, and renowned culinary destination for its traditions, from torrone to mostarda – there is an antique market to be explored: it features silver pieces and jewellery, porcelain objects and watches, antique furniture and icons of contemporary design, but also vinyl records, vintage postcards and toys. The reference locations are Piazza Stradivari and Piazza della Pace, very close to the Duomo.

MERCATONE NAVIGLIO GRANDE – Via Ripa di Porta Ticinese, Milan

Every last Sunday of the month hosts an appointment with the ‘Mercatone dell’Antiquariato’ (Grand Antiques Market) along the full length of the first section of Naviglio Grande, with stands extending from Viale Gorizia to the bridge of Via Valenza.

Two streets, it should be noted, are dedicated to designer items: Via Corsico and Via Paoli. But the level of quality is high everywhere, and the objects available range from furniture to porcelain, from comics to prints, from precious glass to bronzes.

REMIRA MARKET – Via Luigi Nono 9, Milan

From mid-morning until sunset, at the Tempio del Future Perduto (Temple of the Lost Future), between the Fabbrica de Vapore and the Monumental Cemetery, Milan dresses up like Berlin with the Remira Market, full of sustainable second-hand and handmade goods for purchase. During the market days, the organisers animate the area with debates, workshops and meetings useful to support a healthy lifestyle, with zero impact, within an inclusive and aware community.

MERCATINO DELLE COSE INTROVABILI (MARKET OF UNFINDABLE THINGS) – Piazza Santa Maria, Montichiari

In Montichiari, a small town in the province of Brescia which is home to a castle from 1100 and an incredible Duomo of the 1700s, there is a ritual antiques, collecting and hobby market known by the name of “Mercatino delle cose introvabili” (Market of unfindable things). And everything can be found there: coins, postage stamps, medals, period books, old merchandise. There’s something for every taste and type of collecting!
