5 things to do in Milan in September 2025

September is one of the liveliest and most exciting months in Milan: the city is filled with cultural events, festivals, music, art and international events.

If you are looking for ideas on how to make the most of this month, here are 5 events not to be missed in Milan in September 2025.

1. MITO SettembreMusica 2025 (until 18 September)  – Teatro alla Scala (Via Filodrammatici 2); Auditorium di Milano (Largo Gustav Mahler);

This year, Milan and Turin come together again for the 19th edition of MITO SettembreMusica. 67 events ranging from symphonic and chamber music to world premieres and multidisciplinary performances.

Two dates to mark in Milan: 4 September with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir A. Pappano, with pianist Seong-Jin Cho, and 5 September with the Milan Symphony Orchestra and music by Strauss, Moussa and Shostakovich.

2. IMMERSIONI Festival (until 21 September) – Teatro Grassi

Not just entertainment, but also an experience: theatre is understood as a shared, participatory space where art and territory intertwine. This is the heart of “Immersioni”, the contemporary drama festival promoted by mare culturale urbano and Piccolo Teatro. Here, the audience is invited to discover the creative processes and share the stage with the artists, becoming an active part of the performance.

3. Milan Beauty Week (17–21 September) – Palazzo Giureconsulti, Palazzo Castiglioni, Palazzo Bovara.

It’s not just Fashion Week: in September, Milan also celebrates beauty with Milan Beauty Week. An event that celebrates cosmetics as an essential asset for well-being and self-esteem at all stages of life.

The schedule offers a rich programme of activities and experiences, which enliven not only the three main hubs, but also streets, squares, shopping areas, art and cultural venues throughout the city.

4. Milan Green Week (18–21 September) – Various neighbourhoods and green spaces in Milan

Workshops, exhibitions, shows and meetings spread across the neighbourhoods: Milan Green Week transforms the city into an urban laboratory dedicated to sustainability. An invitation to explore the most innovative and “green” side of Milan and to imagine new ways of living in harmony with the environment.

5. “M.C. Escher – Between Art and Science” (25 September – 8 February) – MUDEC Museum of Cultures

The MUDEC is inaugurating a major exhibition dedicated to the Dutch artist Escher, who, with his ability to transform geometric rigour into visual poetry, has inspired entire generations of creatives, mathematicians and scientists.

The exhibition highlights the link between Escher and Islamic decorative art, which he discovered during his trip to Spain in 1936. This influence would become fundamental to his famous tessellations and games of perceptual metamorphosis.

Whether you are an art enthusiast, a concert lover or curious to discover new experiences, Milan always offers plenty of inspiration and unique initiatives.
